Jon,

I think most readers familiar with Romans 8:28 are aware that the "all things" includes (especially) "the sufferings of this present time" (v. 18). I'm certain Pastor Chanski had verse 18 in view since his post enjoins optimism in the midst of troubling times. Your input, nevertheless, helps to make that connection clearer. Thanks!

The more appropriate, and constantly overlooked, verse here would be Romans 8:18

"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

That speaks more of the harsh realities of life having a purpose. 8:28 is a tad too optimistic in its tone by comparison.

Thanks. What comforting words in the midst of what seems like Evangelical panic.
